Crochet fanny packs are trendy and practical accessories that add a touch of handmade charm to your outfit. These versatile bags allow you to keep your essentials secure and easily accessible while leaving your hands free. In this article, we will guide you through creating your own crochet fanny pack pattern, combining style and functionality in one delightful project.

Materials Needed:

Worsted weight yarn in the color of your choice. I use

Crochet hook suitable for your yarn weight.

Scissors.

Zipper or button closure.

Lining fabric (optional).

D-rings or other hardware for adjustable straps (optional).

Instructions:

Step 1: Choose the Pattern and Design

Start by selecting the pattern and design for your crochet fanny pack. There are various options available, ranging from simple stitches like single crochet or half double crochet to more intricate patterns like cables or shells. Consider the size, number of compartments, and any additional decorative elements you want to incorporate.

Step 2: Measure and Calculate

Decide on the dimensions of your fanny pack based on your preferences. Measure around your waist or hips to determine the length needed, keeping in mind the desired width and any additional space for closure. Use this measurement to calculate the number of starting chains and rows for your pattern. My crochet fanny pack pattern are made by combining HDC stitch, Block Puff Stitch, DC, SC, and Picot. The resulting fanny pack is approximately 25x15x9 cm in size. This size includes medium / standard size.

Step 3: Start Crocheting

Using your chosen yarn and crochet hook, begin crocheting according to your selected pattern. Follow the instructions for the base of the fanny pack, working in rounds or rows, depending on the design. Make sure to maintain an even tension and periodically check that the size aligns with your measurements.

Step 4: Create Compartments and Details

If you want compartments or additional details, crochet separate sections and join them to the main body of the fanny pack. This can involve creating pockets, flaps, or decorative stitches. Experiment with different textures and stitches to add visual interest and functionality.

Step 5: Attach the Closure

Once you have completed the main portion of the fanny pack, it’s time to attach the closure. You can opt for a zipper or a button closure, depending on your preference and skill level. Carefully sew or crochet the closure in place, ensuring it is secure and functions smoothly.

Step 6: Optional Lining
